Statement - IWD (March 2024)
This year’s International Women's Day is specifically significant because it commemorates the 45th anniversary of massive protests by Iranian women against mandatory hijab. Just a few weeks after the Iranian revolution, Khomeini issued a decree making the hejab mandatory for women. As a result, tens of thousands of women in Iran took to the streets of Tehran and other cities like Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz and Sanandaj, chanting, "We didn't have a revolution to go backwards." The protests lasted for six days, from March 8th to March 14 1979, where they were met with violence and finally in 1981 compulsory hijab became law.
The torch lit by those women protesters continues to be carried by every generation of Iranian women freedom fighters - from daughter of revolution street to women life freedom movement.
Today, despite all repression, hardship and brutalities, women of Iran are standing bolder and more fearless than ever.
We at ICWIN will always stand with brave women of Iran, from Kurdistan to Baloochestan, from Azarbaijan to Khuzestan, in their daily fight against tyranny and gender apartheid. We at ICWIN will always stand with brave women of Iran, from Kurdistan to Baloochestan, from Azarbaijan to Khuzestan, in their daily fight against tyranny and gender apartheid.
Today’s Feminism is all about inclusion. We at ICWIN, stand up for struggling women of the world, from Palestine to Afghanistan; From Sudan to Pakistan,; from Turkey to Lebanon; from Congo to U.S.A.
We make a commitment to be an advocate for all women: black, brown, white, non-white, women with disabilities, trans women and hardworking underprivileged women in factories and villages.
We, as a feminist organization, believe Palestine is a feminist issue, therefore advocacy for Palestinian liberation is our duty.
For decades, Gaza has been recognized as the largest open-air prison in the world. And Now it has turned into a death camp. The Israeli army, with unconditional support from the U.S. government, continues its intense bombing of Gaza and continues to deprive Palestinians of vital resources such as water, food, electricity, fuel and urgent medical assistance.
Since October 7, 2023, more than 30,000 Palestinian have been killed, 20,000 of them women and children. More than 8000 are missing. About 72,000 are injured, left without any medical assistance. As they say, one life lost is too many, but more than 30,000 lost lives is outrageous!
ICWIN, along with human rights activists, progressive ant-zionist peace loving Jewish brothers and sisters, anti-war, anti-militarist, anti-colonial feminists, condemns military invasion, oppression and forced displacement of Palestinians. We Call for an end to US political, military, and economic support of Israel, and demand permanent ceasefire and ending of this human catastrophe and genocide by apartheid Israel.
On this day, we celebrate many achievements by Iranian women and women of the world. On Monday March 4, 2024, France officially became the first country in the world to guarantee the right to abortion. The constitutional amendment, passed by the French Parliament made abortion a constitutional right for all French women on Friday March 8th, the International Women’s Day.
On this International Women’s Day, let us salute all of those visionary and courageous women before us who have changed the world and many continue to do so.
On this day, while we’re celebrating many achievements of women in Iran and across the glob, let us remember all political prisoners in Iran, particularly women like Zainab Jalalian, the Kurdish political prisoner, who is in her 16th year of imprisonment
On this day, let us remember and honor all women across the world fighting tirelessly against darkness and gender apartheid.
Once again Happy International Women’s Day
Woman Life Freedom, Jhen jhiyan aazadi, Zan Zendegi Azadi
Freedom is our right, Jina’s name is our light
Long live women’s resistance. Va zendeh baad mobarezat zanan iran!

Woman, Life, Freedom (Oct 2022)
On September 16, 2022, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman named Mahsa (Zina) Amini, died in Tehran, three days after being arrested by so-called morality police for leaving some of her hair visible and wearing an "improper" hijab. After being detained, Mahsa Amini was severely beaten in a police van and fell into a coma while being in police custody. Despite all the evidence, the Iranian government denied the responsibility of Mehsa's murder and claimed that Mahsa suffered a heart attack.
Since Mahsa's death thousands of Iranians have been occupying the streets across the country in a series of ongoing protests, shouting "Women, Life, Freedom", demanding justice for Mahsa and freedom for women. So far more than 80 (?) people have been killed, more than a thousand protesters being arrested and at least 20 journalists have been detained, covering the protests.
Mahsa’s death is just one example of so many in the hands of Iran's government in the past 43 years. Iranian Circle of Women for International Networking or ICWIN, strongly condems the brutal acts of violence against Iranian women.Today, we stand in solidarity with brave women inside Iran and our sisters across the globe, echoing the voice of Iranian women and other oppressed people of Iran.
ICWIN strongly demands:
- Justice for #Mahsa_Amini
- Abolition of the forced hijab
- Abolishion of the anti women laws and gender apartheid in Iran
- Abolition of the so-called morality police across Iran
- Security and freedom of speach and demonstrations
- Immediate release of all arrested by the so-called morality police and release of all political prisoners
- Fair and impartial investigations of similar tragic deaths caused by government agencies and prompt and appropriate judgment and punishments for the perpetrators
Protest Against the Deportation of Afghan Citizens From Iran (July 2025)
We at the Iranian Circle of Women for International Networking (ICWIN) strongly condemn the recent wave of deportations of Afghan migrants from Iran.
Following the recent war, instead of being held accountable for its failure to protect the lives of its citizens, the Islamic Republic has targeted Afghan migrants. This action is part of a systematic policy of anti-Afghan discrimination that had already begun and has now intensified.
Deporting asylum seekers, regardless of whether they hold legal residence documents, means sending them back to a country under Taliban control. This endangers thousands of lives. For women and girls, returning to Afghanistan means the end of education, confinement to the home, and exclusion from public life. For queer individuals, such a return could mean imprisonment, torture, or death..
We firmly declare:
- No migrant should be punished because of their nationality or legal status.
- Deportation, humiliation, detention, and fabricated security charges against Afghan migrants, whether documented or undocumented are unacceptable.
- We oppose the Islamic Republic for scapegoating marginalized communities instead of taking responsibility.
- We oppose the Taliban for destroying the foundations of life, education, and security for women and minorities.
- We demand an immediate end to deportations, dehumanizing treatment, and anti-migrant propaganda.
- We stand in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan-especially women, girls, and queer individuals.
- Silence in the face of these policies is complicity in structural violence.
